Maitseo Pelaelo

Mr. Maitseo Pelaelo is a seasoned Aviation Security (AVSEC) professional and strategic manager with over 20 years of experience in regulatory oversight, risk mitigation, and the implementation of national and international aviation security frameworks. He holds a master’s degree in Sustainable Air Transport Management and is recognized as an ICAO-endorsed expert in aviation security and facilitation. Throughout his career, Mr. Pelaelo has held senior roles that combine operational leadership with global regulatory engagement. He represented Botswana in ICAO USAP CMA audits, contributing to significant improvements in national compliance ratings, and served as a focal point for aviation security assistance initiatives supported by UNOCT and ECAC. During more than a decade with the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana, he rose to the position of Manager of AVSEC and Facilitation Oversight, leading the development of national security programs, enforcement policies, and effective oversight mechanisms. Most recently, he served as an Aviation Security Mentor in Somalia, strengthening the Somali Civil Aviation Authority’s institutional capacity through a program supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Counterterrorism Bureau. His professional foundation also includes military service with the Botswana Defense Force Air Arm, where he operated as a Mission Commander and pilot for the Hermes 450B unmanned aerial system, accumulating over 450 flight hours. Mr. Pelaelo has strong expertise in AVSEC auditing, facilitation, and instructional practice, complemented by a deep background in military intelligence and protective services.
