Dr. Gabriel Awow is a distinguished jurist and senior public-sector legal executive with more than four decades of progressive experience in taxation, public law, prosecution, legislative drafting, and justice sector governance across Sudan and South Sudan. He most recently served as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of South Sudan (2021–2025), following five years as Head of Administration and Finance within the Ministry, where he oversaw institutional management and operational leadership at the highest level. Dr. Awow began his career in the Taxation Department of Upper Nile State (1983–1996) before joining the Ministry of Justice in 1996 as Legal Counsel. He advanced through a succession of senior roles, including legislative drafter and translator in the Legislation Department, Public Prosecutor in Malakal, Khartoum, and Rumbek, Deputy Prosecutor General, Deputy Advocate General, and Chief Registrar of South Sudan. His career reflects deep institutional expertise across the full justice value chain, from lawmaking and prosecution to judicial administration. He has served as Legal Adviser to key national institutions, including the National Audit Chamber, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Trade, and the Bank of South Sudan. At the strategic level, he chaired the Ministry of Justice Taskforce responsible for implementing core chapters of the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement, supporting governance, justice, and institutional reforms. He has also held board and statutory appointments with the National Communication Authority, National Revenue Authority, and Procurement Authority, and continues to serve on the Joint Border Commission between South Sudan and Sudan. Dr. Awow holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Master of Public Law, and a Doctorate in Public Law. Since June 2025, he has been practicing as an Advocate, Legal Consultant, and Commissioner for Oaths through his own legal firm based in Juba, South Sudan.
